10. Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, United States (1989)

This happened on 24th March 1989. The accident happened when the oil carries Exxon Valdez struck the Reef. Around 750,000 barrels of crude oil got spilled all over. This oil spill is one of the most deadly oil spills that ever happened. Many environmental consequences occurred due to this spill. Many sea creatures died. In terms of volume of oil that was lost this is the biggest and because of its remote location, it also became very difficult for the authorities to carry out the clean-up task.
9. Texas City Refinery Explosion, United States (2005)
Texas City Refinery Explosion occurred in the year 2005 when the BP’s refinery which is based in the Texas City catches fire due to explosion that happened in the refinery. As many as 15 workers of the company died within it and around 170 other were injures due to this accident. It is not hard to imagine the loss which occurred due to this accident as this refinery in Texas City is the third largest refinery in United States. United States government imposed a huge fine on BP for violating various laws. It was reported that it was the company’s negligence that led to this massive accident.

This another massive accident occurred in the Three Mile Island power plant which is situated in Pennsylvania, United States. This accident occurred due to the nuclear meltdown that happened on 28th March 1979. Because of this accident a small amount of radioactive gases got leaked into the air causing damage to life and the environment. A large number of populations who were living near to the power plant were evacuated as a safety norm. The clean-up of the Three Mile Island power plant took four years to complete and about 1 billion US dollars were spent on its cleaning.
7. Minamata Disaster, Japan (1932-1968)
Minamata Disaster occurred in Japan and is considered as one of the most deadly disaster that ever happened in this country. Due to this disaster a new disease called as Minamata disease spread and a large population got affected due to this. For over thirty years the affected people had to wait for the compensation. Many people lost their life, some of them got handicapped; some lost eye sight and then had to live with it. This accident happened due to the negligent of the Chisso Corporation. They unloaded mercury into sea water which led to the poisoning of the sea water and so people got affected.

Courrières Mine Disaster is the most brutal mining disaster that happened in Europe. The saddest part is to find that around 1099 miners lost their life due to this Industrial disaster. This accident happened on 10th March 1906. A dust explosion is reported to be the reason of this deadly Industrial accident. The reason that what led to the dust explosion is still unknown to the world. Rescue work could not be carried out so effectively due to lack of trained professionals. Only 13 miners who were present inside the mine at the time of the accident survived this disaster.

This huge explosion underwent in BASF plant which is in Oppau, Germany. This explosion happened on 21st September 1921. A storing tank containing a mixture of Ammonium Nitrate and Ammonium Sulphate fertilizer blasted. All that people who were in the plant at the time of explosion died due to this. The explosion was so huge that its sound was heard at a distance of 300 kilometers away. All those buildings that were close to the plant were destroyed. There was a heavy loss of live and property due to this massive Industrial disaster.
4. Halifax Explosion, Canada (1917)
Halifax Explosion took place on 6th December 1917 in a ship that was carrying wartime explosions. It was a cargo ship which was fully loaded with explosions. It is said to be the largest explosion that happened and destroyed everything. Around 2000 people were killed due to this accident. All those things that were near to the site of explosions were destroyed and affected. It is said that around 9000 people were injured because of this accident. The explosion was so huge that it affected properties that were a bit far from the accident site also.
3. Texas City Disaster, United States (1947)
Texas City Disaster is one of the most unfortunate accidents that happened on 16th April 1947. This disaster is also one of the most brutal industrial accidents that happened in United States. A French vessel containing 2300 tons of Ammonium Nitrate exploded and that led to the massacre. Around 581 people were killed then and there. Many people got affected due to this collision. Many people got missing from the site where this disaster took place. It is said that over 5000 people got injured and many properties that were near to the dock were destroyed. It was later reported that property around 1.04 billion US dollars were destroyed because of this disaster.

This accident happened on 26th April 1986. Due to explosion which later resulted into fire in the Nuclear Power Plant, a large amount of radioactive gases got mixed into the air. The worst Industrial Disaster that shook people all over the world happened on the night of 2-3 December 1985. The Union Carbide India Limited which had its plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh was responsible for the accident. Due to the negligence of the company there was a leakage of Methyl Isocyanate gas. This toxic substance affected many people there in Bhopal. Official statement reports that around 3787 people died because of this disaster but there are many people who consider this to be a false number. Many more were injured or were attacked by on or the other disease because of this accident. Still today there are victims who are fighting for the compensation.
