To accomplish this, company’s previous performance figures were increased by 4700%. The total inflation at the time of exposure of scandal was 10 billion dollars which was 10% of company’s total worth. In order to save itself from bankruptcy, company sold many of its business divisions, hospitals, jet planes and even its bullet proof cars. Since then the company has recovered substantially. Foundation: An organisation ‘A’ asks investors to invest money and promises very lucrative short-term returns. When investment comes in, the owner of the company starts paying out interests to the investor from their own investment or from the investment of others (and not from the profit earned by the company). These returns are usually very high (though less than what they had invested) and inconsistent. Ultimately the whole system fails because the whole organisation was fraudulent from the very beginning. This was a perfect example of what the world knows as “Ponzi Scheme”. Normally an investment company in the market would guarantee a return of principal amount and 20% (imaginary figure) interest compounded monthly at the maturity of investment. However, in Ponzi Scheme, this interest percentage can be as high as three or four times the usual percentage.

Scandal: World’s biggest Ponzi scheme was exposed when one evening Bernard Madoff, former chairman of NASDAQ, admitted to his son that his wealth management company was actually a big Ponzi scheme. Later on, his son admitted in front of the authorities about the conversation and the very next day, on 11 Dec 2011, Bernard Madoff was arrested. Bernard Madoff had founded his company in 1960s and confessed that he started the Ponzi scheme in late 1980s; however authorities believe that it was somewhere in early 1970s that he initiated the whole scheme. The investors are believed to be cheated of approx 18 billion dollars. In June 2009 Bernard Madoff was sentenced to 150 years imprisonment.

Scandal: In the year 2002 it was discovered that Xerox had shown incorrect entries in its balance sheets during 1997 – 2000. Money received due to photocopy machine lease business was being shown as one time sale and transaction instead of a long, timely and recurring income. For sake of simplicity, let’s assume that Xerox gave machines on lease and earned 100 dollars over a period of 10 months (10 dollars per month). But instead of showing 10 dollars in the balance sheet of 10 subsequent months, Xerox represented one transaction of 100 dollars. This malpractice was highlighted by U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (government agency that deals with security agency). Xerox had to pay a penalty of 10 million dollars and made amendments in its accounts.

For three months, from mid April 2010 to Mid July 2010, massive amount of oil kept leaked from one of the BP’s well in the Gulf of Mexico. The leak was the result of an explosion that happened during the process of digging. 11 people were killed in this explosion. As per an estimate the quantity of total oil spill was somewhere around 4.9 million barrels. The spill caused massive harm to the marine life and affected close to 800 kms of American coastline. It took BP two whole months to put a lid on the well and later on, it was declared that the well would never be used again. The spills caused many major setbacks to BP. Apart from humongous financial loss, BP faced serious decline in its face value with people in America abandoning BP products. However, the situation is getting better now. Almost 1 million damage claims have been processed by BP so far and has paid out close to 5 billion dollars to the claimants. BP is still yet to clear thousands of other claims of fishermen, businesses who were harmed by oil spill. For this sole purpose, British Petroleum has set up a relief fund on 20 billion dollars. On top of this, BP may have to pay a fine of 21 billion dollars under ‘Clean Water Act’.

Scandal: On the night of 2nd December 1984, more than 5,00,000 people in Bhopal,India were exposed to Methyl Isocyanate gas that leaked from Union Carbide’s pesticide plant. By the advent of next morning, approx. 4000 people and 2500 cattle had died due to the exposure to harmful gas. 4000 more people died in the week that followed. Of all the injured people, approx. 3900 people suffered permanent disabilities. Stillborn rate in the area increased to almost 300% in coming years. Union Carbide was sued by Government of India and later on a fine of 480 million dollars was levied on them in the year 1989. Bhopal gas tragedy is considered one of the worst industrial disasters in the history.

It lost its 12,000 readers in the third quarter as the number fell from 5.29 lakh of average issue readership (AIR) in IRS ( Issue Readership Survey ) Q4, 2010 to 5.06 lakhs in the last quarter. But recently it has witnessed a rise of 23,000 readers in the current survey. This newspaper mainly deals with present scenario business issues. The editors do not compromise on presenting issues which are related to the common man. This newspaper focuses on journalistic values and it has a special edition named as Sunday Express which makes it distinct from other newspapers.

9. The Tribune

The newspaper remains in ninth position as it has seen an increase in its number of readers. This newspaper lost 14,000 readers in Q4, 2011 but then in Q1, 2012 the number of readers again tolled to 39,000 thus making an overall increase of 25,000 readers since Q3, 2011. It claimed its AIR stand at 6.24 lakh for Q1, 2012. This is the reason behind bouncing back of this daily newspaper.

8. Mumbai Mirror

It stands in the eighth position since it has lost 45,000 readers in the present quarter. It has registered AIR at 7.11 lakh while in previously it was 7.56 lakh. It has also lost 30,000 readers in the third quarter. It is considered as the biggest loser of this year but still manages to remain in eighth position.

7. The English Daily DNA

Ranked seventh, it is also one of the popular English daily read by the people. Its currently average issue readership (AIR) is registered at 9.09 lakh. Recently it has seen a marginal increase of 12,000 readers in this quarter. However, the biggest increase in its AIR was 34,000 which was recorded in the last quarter in ISR Q4, 2011. This growth was not replicated in this quarter resulting it to be in the seventh position.

6. The Economic Times

This is ranked at sixth position as it lost 22,000 readers in the last quarter of 2011 i.e. Q4, 2011. Though it gained 2,000 readers in Q1, 2011 but the recent decline was much more than that leading to a downfall in its position in the list of top ten. An average issue readership (AIR) of 7.97 lakh was recorded in the fourth quarter of ISR 2010 whereas it was 7.98 lakh in IRS Q3 2010. The current AIR of Q1, 2012 claimed at 7.92 lakh.

5. The Deccan Chronicle

It is owned by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd. and has got a readership of 1 million. It was founded in 1938 and is currently printed from one city each of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and seven cities of Andhra Pradesh. In previous survey results, the average issue readership was 10.28 lakh but currently it is 10.73 lakh. The Deccan Chronicle has seen a decline of 51,000 readers in the previous year due to which it stands at the fifth position. It claimed its AIR stands at 11.52 lakh in second quarter and 11.24 lakh in first quarter of 2010.

4. The Telegraph

The Telegraph is owned by ABP group and was founded in 1982. It is the fourth largest read English daily and mainly published in Eastern India. In the previous quarter its average issue readership was 11.97 lakh as compared to the current AIR which is claimed at 12.38 lakh. It has been noticed that there is a fall of 14,000 readers in Q3 whereas the number saw a rise in the second quarter of IRS i.e. Q2, 2010 of 7,000 readers. The Telegraph has an overall increase of 34,000 readers in the past one year making it firm at the fourth position. This comes with different editions based on the region and is widely circulated in West Bengal, Jharkhand and other Eastern States of India.

3. The Hindu

This newspaper is known for its reporting quality and comprehension coverage. It is owned by Kasturi and Sons Ltd. and is the flagship of The Hindu group. It is also known as national newspaper in India and is published from 10 different locations making a total of 10 editions, mainly in south India.  The newspaper lost 54,00 readers in 2010 which bags it the third position in top ten newspapers list. Its Average Issue readership in the first quarter was 21.59 lakh whereas in second quarter Q2 it claimed its average issue readership of 21.85 lakh readers. The specialty of this page is that it has a separate editorial page which adds a spark to it. One of the editor N. Ram has edited since 2003.

2. Hindustan Times

Founded in 1924, this is the second most popular newspaper among the North Indian readers of India. it was founded by Mahatma Gandhi himself. It is owned by HT Media Ltd. which is controlled by the KK Birla family. It has added 75,000 readers in last quarter Q4, 2010 of IRS ( Issue Readership Survey ). In Q4, 2010 this newspaper witnessed an increase of 35.92 lakh readers in its AIR whereas in Q3, 2010 the count was 35.1 lakh. Thus observing a net increase of 64,000 readers in its third quarter of IRS i.e Q3, 2010. Also it has lost its 14,000 readers in Q2, 2010. So overall adding 1.25 lakh readers in first quarter Q1, 2010 makes it the second largest read English daily. The chief editor of this newspaper is Sanjoy Narayan. Other columnists are Khushwant Singh, Karan Thapar,Barkha Dutt and Vir Sanghvi.

The Times Of India was founded in 1838 and is presently owned and managed by Benett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., controlled by the Sahu Jain family. There are ten different editions which are printed in 32 different cities. The Times Of India is one of the most popular daily English newspapers which is circulated in pan-India regions. It has registered an increase of 1,70,000 readers thus claiming its AIR to be 74.24 lakhs which was earlier 72.54 lakhs in IRS Q3, 2010. It has maintained its growth for the past few years. This newspaper has gained 1.56 lakhs reader in the third quarter as compared to Q2, 2010 where the figure has been just 53, 000. Due to this reason it is the most read daily newspaper among the people. Jaideep Bose has been one of the prominent editors of this newspaper. Some of its contributors are RK Laxman, MJ Akbar, Jug Suraiya, Rukmini Subramaniam, Gurcharan Das and Shobha de.

10] Hindustan times – English:-

This newspaper was founded in 1924 and was originated during the Indian Independence Movement. This newspaper in English language is being published under HT Media Ltd. Though there are readers all over in India but it is most popular in North India in the regions of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Bhopal, Ranchi and Chandigarh. It was also printed in Jaipur but that was stopped in 2006.

9] Amar Ujala – Hindi:-

This newspaper in Hindi language was founded on 18^th April, 1948. Initially it was started in Agra but later expanded in Chandigarh, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Up, Uttarakhand, and New Delhi. The motto of this new newspaper is “josh sach ka” (Passion of Truth) and was basically introduced to promote awakening and making the citizens responsible towards nation, society and each other.

8] Ananda Bazar Patrika – Bengali:-

This Bengali-language newspaper in India is the 8^th most circulated product as per ABC. The newspaper is published by ABP Group in Delhi, Mumbai anf ofcourse Kolkata. This is one of the best reader’s choice and around 1.28 million copies are read by the people in India.

7] Deccan Chronicle – English:-

This newspaper is published by Deccan Chronicle Holdings Ltd. Whose office is in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. This newspaper in English language is 7^th most circulated daily newspaper as per ABC (Audit Bureau of Circulation). The name itself suggests that this newspaper was originated in the Deccan regions in India. This newspaper was started in 1938 as a partnership concern. In 1976, the press was taken over by late T Chadrashekar Reddy but after bankruptcy he handed this to his sons T Vinayak Ravi Reddy and T Venkattram Reddy.

6] Eenadu – Telagu:-

This newspaper in Telugu language in India is the 6^th widely circulated newspaper and the most widely read newspaper in Andhra Pradesh. The word ‘Eenadu’ in Telugu means ‘Daily’. This newspaper was founded in 1974 by Ramojji Rao. This newspaper influenced the crowning of Governments in AP as well in dethroning them. 5] The Hindu – English:-

The Hindu is a daily newspaper in India in English. This newspaper was founded in Chennai and since 1878; it is being continuously published from there itself. As per the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) this one is the 5^th most circulated in India with 1.46 million copies circulated in 2009. Around 2.0 million people read this daily newspaper but the main readership comes from the southern parts of India like Tamil Nadu and Kerala. When the newspaper was started in 1878, it was a weekly but it turned into a daily in 1889. This one is the first newspaper which provided online editions in India in the year 1995.

4] Malayala Manorama – Malayalam:-

This is a daily in Malayalam language which is a language of Kerala, India. According to a survey by WAN (World Association of Newspapers) this newspaper is the 4^th most circulated one in India and also the most read newspaper in Kerala. The first release of this newspaper was on 14^th March, 1890. More than 20 million people in India reads this newspaper and over 1.9 million copies are circulated. “Manorama” is a Malayalam word which means entertainer.

3] Dainik Jagran – Hindi:-

As per the survey conducted by Indian Readership Survey IRS, this newspaper stands 1^st when talked about the readership with a score of 16.393 million readers but when it comes to circulation, this newspaper is ranked 3^rd. This rank is a downfall as it was the 2^nd most circulated daily in the year 2010. This daily newspaper was founded by Shri Puranchandra Gupta and Shri Gurudev Gupta jointly in the year 1942 in Jhansi. Initially, starting from Jhansi and then expanding to Kanpur in 1947; again expanding to Rewa, 1953; Bhopal, 1956; Gorakhpur, 1975; Varanasi, Allahabad and Lucknow, 1979; Meerut & Agra, 1986; Bareilly in 1989 and Delhi in 1990 and so on reaching a count of 36 editions in 11 states of India.

2] Dainik Bhaskar – Hindi:-

This is a daily newspaper in Hindi Language in India. The newspaper was started in 1958 from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and spread all over India and achieved the rank #2 in the list of Largest Circulation among all the Indian newspapers. The TOI is a daily newspaper in English language in India. This newspaper is ranked #1 by the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) in the list of Largest Circulation among all Indian newspapers sold across the world. As per Indian Readership Survey, this newspaper is the largest selling newspaper even when compared in any language in the whole world. Around 74.71 lakhs (which is equal to 7.471 million) people read Times of India. This newspaper is published by Sahu Jain Family who owns Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd.

10. Indian Wild Ass

Indian Wild Ass is also known as ‘’Khur’’ which is different from African wild ass species. This animal possesses erect dark mane which starts from head till neck followed by dark brown stripe along the back till root of the tail. Earlier this species was extended from Little Rann of Kutch till the state of Rajasthan. But now this species has suffered from a disease known as ‘’Surra’’ by flies which resulted in sudden extinction of the species. Apart from this disease another reason for its decline is habitat degradation due to salt activities. In 1961, this species was reduced to just 870 and now we rarely find them.

9. Lion Tailed Macaque

This species is an Old world monkey endemic to the western Ghats of south India. This monkey is black in colour having head body length of 42 to 60cms and 2 to 10 kgs in weight. A few years back these were recorded 3000- 3500 in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu but now theses have been recorded as one of the most fastest rarest endangered species. These species have declined to the number of 338 due to spread of agriculture, tea, power generation and other activities of human settlements. Their avoidance by humans and habitat destruction resulted in drastic decrease in their population.

8. Wild Buffalo

This species is also known as Gaur or Indian Bison which is considered largest among wild cattle habitat of south-east Asia and south Asia. This species is huge and massively large whose weight ranges from 650 to 1000kg and head body length of 250 to 330cm. These are confined o evergreen and deciduous forests in china, Thailand, Myanmar and many more regions. They are threatened by poaching and regular trade.

7. Kashmir Stag

Kashmir Stag is native animal of Jammu and Kashmir and also known as Hangul which is sub species of red deer. This deer is brown in color without tail with speckling on the hairs. This species lives in groups in dense forests in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh and the mountains of Kashmir. In the 20^th century these deer’s were recorded to be 5000 but slowly and steadily they were threatened by over grazing, poaching and habitat destruction by domestic livestock. These were reduced to 150 but now J&K government has taken the initiative and started the project to protect these animals.

6. Indian Leopard

This is one of the leopard subspecies and is considered to be one of them out of five big cats widely distributed in subcontinents. They are distributed all over Asia from Himalayas till Bangladesh and Pakistan inhabiting rain forests, Temperate, deciduous and coniferous forests. Usually their body length grow from 4.25 to 6.25 and weigh around 60 kg. Indian leopards are threaten by illegal wildlife trade practices and poaching due to negligence of Indian Government as it is banned to use animal skin but still leopad skin is used resulting in extinction of these species.

5. Indian Elephant

Indian Elephant is one out of three subspecies of Asian Elephant and native of Asia but they are recorded 50% less since 1986. No doubt Asian elephants are smaller than African ones but they have highest body points on head for which considered huge and famous animal of India. They have 19 pairs of ribs and weigh 2000 to 5000kg with shoulder height between 2-3.5m. These elephants are mainly the habitats of Nepal, Thailand, China, Malay Peninsular and Vietnam on the other hand inhabit dry deciduous and evergreen forests.  There is a significant loss of them and habitat as they do not find any free movement area due to reservoirs, hydroelectric projects ,cultivation and plantations and industrial development.

4. Black Buck

The Black Buck is a species of antelope which is considered to be one of the fastest animals found in India. Being a threat of poaching, habitat destruction, overgrazing, and diseases this species is at the extend of extinction but currently some wildlife found in India the parks and zoos are this animal to save them. These are usually found in the herd of 15 to 20 with distinctive horns ringed with one to four spiral turns which are 30 inches long. Their body length range upto five feet with three feet in shoulder height.

3. One Horned Rhino

It is the fourth largest land animal which comes in the category of Rhinocerotidae family. This Indian Rhinoceros is the large mammal found in north eastern parts of India and extends till Indo Gangetic plains. They typically weighs between 1600 to 3500kg and recorded second in size among terrestrial land mammals. In the year 2007, these were estimated to be 2575 out of which 2000lives in Indian area. During 1800’s and early 1900’s, Indian rhinos were threatened due to sports hunting and poaching which resulted in continous extinction.

2.Golden Tabby Tiger

This type of tiger is also known as strawberry tiger and it has its origin in Bengal. These are found in captivity and where there is high concentration of clay in the soil. Due to color deficiency these tigers are also at the edge of extinction as during 1900’s these have their origin but now they are just 30.

1.Red Wolf

This species is a north American canid on the other hand we can see them roaming till south eastern United states. These are mostly the habitat of swamps, agricultural fields and where they found their prey population adequate. Total length with tail is 111-165cm on the other hand weigh almost from 16-41kg. Due to climatic changes and natural phenomenons these species are decreasing.

10. Origin Of Paralympics 

Dr. Ludwigg Gutmann From Germany started Very first Athletics events for the British war patients suffering with the Spinal cord injuries. He was German Neurologist in Buckinghamshire, and at that time these events were called as 1948 International Wheelchair games and are intentially conincided with the 1948 Summer olympics games. His Purpose to promote this game was to improve the handicapped peoples with the Sports therapy. His Purpose fulfilled when in 1952 same Events were held again and this time Dutch veterans also participated in those events making it and International event .

9. First Paralympics Game In Rome

The first ever official Paralympics were held in Rome in 1960. And few changes were made in the game formats. Previously these games were only opened for the war veterans but now it was open to all peoples , also previously only peoples with wheelchairs were entertained in the events but now onwards peoples having any physical disabilities are given chance. Many milestones were created in these games, like 400 peoples from 23 countries participated in the 8 different events viz, Archery, Athletics, Dartchery, Snooker, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basket Ball and Wheelchair Fencing. Host Italy was First and Great Britain was second on those events.

8. Great Britain In Paralympics

Great Britain is the one where Paralympics started as a International Wheelchair games  and becomes worldwide famous as Paralympics. In 1960 Great Britain was 2^nd in Medal Tally 55 Medals including 20 golds. A very Interesting fact about Great Britain in Paralympics is that it is never out of top four in medal tally since 1988. Great Britain is the current host of the 2012 Paralympics games London, and this time it is considered as the biggest Paralympics event ever held..  Around 4200 Athletes from 164 Countries are participating in different events with Great Britain most 288 Athletes.

7. Tanni-Grey Thompson

Full name Carys Davina “Tanni” Grey-Thompson  Baroness Grey-Thompson was a British Wheelchair racer  born in 26 July , 1969 in Cardiff, wales . She is considered as the most Successful Paralympian  ever she won 16 paralympic medals out of which 11 of them are gold. First time she appeared in 1988 Seoul Paralympics  and then total Five Paralympics attended, her last Paralympics event was 2004 Athens Paralympics where she won grabbed the two gold medals in 100m and 400m Wheelchair Racing event. In a Complete she made 30 World Records and won London Marathons Six time.

6.Natalie Du Toit

Natalie Du Toit is also one of the Paralympics who have competed in Olympic games. She belong to South Africa. In 2008, She finished 16th in the women’s marathon 10km swimming event in Beijing . She took  less than a minute and a half behind the winner after more than six miles of swimming. She won gold medal at the 2004 Paralympic games as well as Common Wealth games. She is the first amputee ever to qualify for the Olympic. She began competing  internationally in swimming at the age of 14.

5. Oscar Pistorius

Oscar Leonard Carl Pistoriusis a South African sprint runner. He was born on 22 November 1986. He is also called as “Blade Runner” due to his carbon fibre running blades and is also calles as “the fastest men on no legs”. he is World record holder of T44 in 100, 200 and 400 meters events.  When he was 11 months old, his legs were amputated halfway between his knees and ankles.

There are three pairs of brothers among Team GB’s 2012 athletes. Sam and Joe Ingram (judo), Dan and Marc Powell (judo again), and Peter and Stephen McGuire (boccia). The pair of these 3 brothers will be participating in Paralympics games 2012.

The Paralympics Judo is Organized by International Judo Federation. The Norms are different for the Blind Candidates. It is based upon the principle of  Japanese Martial Art of Judo. The contests always start with a loose grip over each other Judo suits and if the contact is broken the player return to the center and re-grip.  Taiwanese judo athlete Lee Kai-lin won Taiwan’s first medal in London 2012.

21 years old Sharath Gayakwad is the India’s alone swimmer at the London Paralympics. He has finished 3rd in his 100m   breaststroke event with his best time of 1:18:20. Sharath has also won two gold medal, four silver and one bronze medal at IWAS World Games in 2009. He has also won bronze at Asian Para Games in China in 2010
