The 2008 Olympics was held in China. In order to keep up with the glory of the event the Chinese government decided to build a stadium that will host the Olympics . All the leading architects participated and the Bird’d nest model by Li Xingxang was accepted by the expert’s panel as well as the people and became the official design in April 2003 . The construction was started in December 2003 and required a total of 17000 workers. The entire structure uses steel and is the biggest steel structure in the world. The steel casing that uses random steel beams forms the outer covering whereas there is the sitting area build in concrete on the inside. Each beam weighs around a thousand tons and all the steel required was manufactured in China itself . Today it has a siting capacity of more than 80000 people. The stadium has a rain water collecting system which is then on purification used for the stadium . The ground pipes do the work of keeping up with the temperature around providing heat in winter and cold in summer. The entire structure costs around 230 million American dollars. The ground was opened on 28th June 2008. It is now the National stadium and has hosted many events since then.

9. Channel tunnel (UK and France).

Are you wondering what is a tunnel doing in man made marvels? If so then may be it will if i tell you that this is the longest under sea railway tunnel . No kidding. This tunnel connects the the northern France near Calais to the Kent in UK covering a total distance of 50.5 kilo meters  It runs below the English channel and hence the name “Channel tunnel” . Although there is a longer tunnel in Japan (Seikan tunnel) and even running deeper then this (790 feet ) into the sea but this tunnel has the longest under sea portion. Out of the 50.5 km ; 37.9 km is under the sea with 290 feet deep in the deepest area. Building a tunnel as it is a difficult task but building it under a sea is a mighty task. The high speed Euro star runs in the tunnel and also the Euro shuttle vehicle transport service. The tunnel cost 4650 million which was 80% more than predicted. The construction began in 1988 and finished in 1994. Workers from both the country were involved. The tunnel supports 2 rail routes and 1 service route.

Brij al arab is a luxury hotel undisputed in its field. The name literally mean “the tower of the Arabs” . There is a helipad on the roof which serves as a tennis court otherwise. There is also a hanging hotel which extends out from the main building. It is currently one of the 15 most expensive hotels in the world

7. Akashi – Kaikyo bridge (Japan).

It is also by the name Pearl bridge and is the longest suspension bridge in the world. Its total span is 3991 meters overall. It links the Kobe city in Honshu to the Awaji island city Iwaya across the Akashi strait. Until the ridge passengers use to take ferries to travel between these 2 cities. But due to associated dangers with ferries in storms the construction of a bridge was planned. In the year 1988 in May the construction was started of a road route having 6 lanes. It was opened to he people in 1998 . The bridge can withstand hostile water currents and earthquakes of intensity 8.2. The even have pendulums to dampens the destructive forces. It cost around 500 billion yen and is repaid by the people by paying a toll of 2300 yen . More than 23000 cars use this bridge each day. The worth is said to be re payed in 25 years .

6. Millau Viaduct bridge (France).

This is a suspension bridge near Millau that lies in southern France. At the time of holidays the initial route between France and Spain used to get clogged with traffic and hence construction of a bridge to span the distance was decided. This was designed by Norman Foster a British architect and Michel Virlogeux a French engineer. it is the tallest bridge in the world rising 1125 feet above its base. It was open to the public on 16th December 2004. It costs around 400 million euros. The bridge was awarded the best structural award by IABSE in 2006.

Palm Jumeirah is one of the three palm islands designed by the Dubai designer Nakheel and company. This island is smallest of the three . 3. Great wall of China.

The great wall of China is currently one of the wonders of the world. It is a linkage of various walls build in different times and then joined to form a giant wall collectively called as the great wall. The oldest portions are from 7th century B.C. The building material is consisting f bricks , stone , wood , damped earth etc. The wall has been fortified again and again the most being done in Ming Dynasty. The purpose of the wall was protecting the regions from enemies . It also served as a transportation route and controlled movement from in and out of the region. 10. Gurdwara Data Bandi Chod Sahib

The gurdwara located in Gwalior, MP, India signifies the release of 52 Rajput rulers along with Sikh guru Hargobind singh ji. Construction of the Gurdwara was taken up by Sant Baba Uttam Singh ji in 1968. The Gurdwara has a 6 storey building made entirely of white marble and on the inside it has doors made up of gold. It also houses a very beautiful Palki sahib. The main attraction here is “Darshan Deorahi” which has a Sikh museum. The gurdwara also has a very big langar (community kitchen).

9. Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib

Yet another historic Gurdwara in Delhi. It’s located on Pandit pant Marg, presidents’ estate, New Delhi. It serves as a memoir of Guru Tegh Bahadur Singh’s sacrifice. This is where his beheaded body was cremated. The 9^th Sikh guru was beheaded at Chandni Chowk by Mughals and his body was rescued and cremated and at Rakabganj, the current site of gurdwara. The building is made of white marble and surrounded by a beautiful garden.

Located in the picturesque hills of Jammu and Kashmir’s district Rajouri, the gurdwara represents the Sikh community living in the area. The place where Guru ji was staying was first converted into a Dharamsal which later came to be known as the gurdwara.

7. Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur

This gurdwara is situated in sector 34 of Chandigarh, capital of Punjab and Haryana, India. The current site of the gurdwara was originally a village and the villagers had a faith that guru Teg Bahadur Singh and Guru Gobind Singh had visited the place. As per the needs of the people the gurdwara is has often been expanded by the administrative deptt.

6. Bhatta Sahib

This gurdwara is situated in Ropar, Punjab, India. It was built in memory of guru Gobind singh ji. It also has a story as to why it’s named “bhatta”. Legend has it that guru ji was travelling through this area when he asked for shelter from the villagers. The ignorant crowd pointed to a burning kiln as the only place available. Guruji led his horse straight to kiln and miraculously the fire went out. Seeing this miracle people bowed down and apologized. Later on the place was converted in to gurdwara by Baba Jiwan Singh in 1914. It preserves a silver sword, kitar and dhal gifted by guruji to villagers.

5. Hemkund Sahib

Hemkund is a Sanskrit word meaning snow (hem) and bowl (kund). This gurdwara lies in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand, India. It is one of a kind as it is a star shaped gurdwara lying between a marvelous setting of glacial lakes surrounded by 7 hills from sides each with a Nisan sahib. It lies in the Himalayas devoted to 10^th guru, guru Gobind singh ji. 4. Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha

The most prominent and first gurdwara of southall, London, UK. It was built by the Sikh community of London, which was established in 1960s. It was opened in 2003 and lies on Havelock road. The building was initially   a dairy which was later converted into a holy place of worship within a matter of weeks. The Sabha also focuses upon Sikh education and has established Khalsa School at Norwood hall. The gurdwara has a capacity to accommodate around 3000 people at once.

3. Guru Harkishan gurdwara

This gurdwara is popularly known as ‘Bangla Sahib’. It’s the most prominent gurdwara in Delhi, Situated near CP it can be recognized from its stunning golden dome and a saffron flag post called Nissan sahib. It was first built by Sikh general Sardar Bhagel Singh in1783. It was originally the bungalow by Raja Jai Singh but 8th guru came to reside here. That time there was an epidemic. 2. Guru Nanak Darbar

This is the only gurdwara in Dubai. Studded with 24 carat gold canopies, it also has Italian marble and a five star kitchen. People here are taken aback by its grandeur and majesty.  The man behind the idea is an NRI- Surender Singh Kandhari. The land was gifted by sheikh Mohd. Bin Rashid Al Mktoum, the ruler of Dubai. The gurdwara is a mix of golden temple and southall gurdwara. This is a perfect example of spirituality and modernity   combined with affluence. 1.      Harminder sahib

Popularly known as the golden temple. This gurdwara is situated in the heart of Amritsar, Punjab, India. It was built by fifth Sikh guru Arjan Dev in 1605. Originally it was a small lake where people meditated. Guru Nanak lived and meditated here, later on his disciples converted the site into Hari Mandir. Maharaja Ranjit Singh gifted marble sculpture, golden gilding and precious stones to the temple. The lake is fed by an underground spring. Superman: Escape from Krypton roller coaster is inspired from “Superman: The Escape”. The coaster was opened in 1997 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. To redevelop the roller coaster, the coaster was closed during end half of 2010. This ride is quite similar to Tower of Terror II. The maximum speed of the coaster is 100 mph (i.e. 160 km/h). It is the tallest roller coaster in Mie Prefecture, Japan at Nagashima Spa Land amusement park. It was opened in 2000 at Cedar Point. The track of the roller coaster is about 2,478.99 m long (i.e. 8,133 feet and 2 inches long). Presently, this roller coaster has the record of longest track in the world. It was announced as the tallest complete-circuit coaster with a customary chain lift across the world. It uses more steel as compared to other roller coasters to protect it from earthquake making its cost to cross $50 million.

Dodonpa roller coaster has a record of fastest acceleration. When it comes to acceleration, this steel roller coaster is unbeatable. It was the first roller coaster to use a new technology of Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM) to boost its speed of 107 mph. It was built on 21^st December 2001. This was the first roller coaster to have the title of the fastest roller coaster of the world. After some years its refurbishment is done and it was reopened on March 19, 2011. 4) Top Thrill Dragster 

Top Thrill Dragster was built in 2003 at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. The roller coaster is the 2^nd tallest of all the roller coasters after Kingda Ka. “Race for the Sky” is the tagline of Top Thrill Dragster. The roller coaster can speed up to 120 mph and is exceeded to 120 m (400 feet) in height. The only strata coasters in existence are the Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka. It is the first full circuit with steel accelerator roller coaster built by Intamin.

3) Kingda Ka

Kingda Ka roller coaster uses a steel accelerator to run at a speed of 128 miles per hour (i.e. around 206 km/h) in 3.5 seconds only. It is world’s third fastest roller coaster. Before Kingda Ka, only one Strata coaster was build named Top Thrill dragster at Cedar Point. This roller coaster also uses a hydraulic launch mechanism. Its track is 950 m long (or 3,118 foot long) and its height is 139 m or 456 feet. The roller coaster was built in 2005 and was sited at Six Flags Great Adventure Jackson, New Jersey, United States. Kingda Ka offers its riders a very breathtaking ride.

The roller coaster was opened on August 15^th in 2009. The coaster was located at Nurburgring, Rheinland-Pfalz in Germany. It has a pneumatic launch and can speed up to135 mph (more than 160 km/h). The coaster was manufactured by S&S Worldwide. After sometime of its release on 3 September 2009, some people were injured due to severe damage in the pneumatic system of the roller coaster. Formula Rossa stands at the first position and thus, is the fastest roller coaster in the world. This roller coaster was released in 2010 and is located at Abu Dhabi, N/A, United Arab Emirates. Formula Rossa gives a memorable ride to the people by reaching its top speed of 240 km/h (i.e. 150 mph). The track of the Roller coaster is about 2.2 km long ranking 6^th across the world. It can generate the same release velocity as the aircraft carrier steam catapults can generate. The shape of the roller coaster was similar to that of Autodromo Nazionale Monza racetrack.
